About John

I decided to become an acupuncturist for a number of reasons. Firstly having suffered for many years with sinus and eventually receiving acupuncture and experiencing the benefits. Secondly I am a Director of an organisation that works with mental health difficulties and suicide. This organisation focuses on the client being the centre of treatment and also the driver of their own treatment which is the same principal taken by the Acupuncture Health and Wellness Clinic. A full holistic approach is always taken which I strongly advocate as it is essential to treat mind, body and spirit to maintain our wellness. I have also witnessed the long enduring effect of prescribed medication on a person and the impact this can have on the body over a long period of time. With that in mind I was strongly drawn to Traditional Chinese medicine as a creditable drug free treatment to health care. I also had a strong interest in the ancient method of healing and decided to study it further myself. My main focus is on Health and Wellness, "your heath is your wealth", a wise man once said which proves to be very true.

What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a system of healing which has been practiced in China and other Eastern countries for thousands of years. Although commonly known as a means of pain relief, it is in fact used to treat people with a wide range of illness. It restores and maintains health by the insertion of fine needles just beneath the body surface. Acupuncture points are in very specific locations and lie on channels of energy which connect to the internal organs.

The complexity of most diseases and how symptoms can differ from patient to patient is perfectly suited to acupuncture. John takes pride in his thoroughness when it comes to case diagnosis with each treatment. He may use a combination of body and ear acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping and/or massage depending on your condition.

What to expect at First Visit

Treatment Room Image

In your first visit, I will take your medical history, a detailed history of the illness to be treated and ask some other questions about diet, sleep, life-style, etc. From this information, I can piece together a picture of your general health and trace why this particular pattern of illness or disharmony has arisen. I'll then decide what acupuncture points to use in order to strengthen any areas of weakness and bring the body back into balance. Tuina, cupping, moxibustion or acupuncture can be used as part of the treatment. A treatment plan will be created and you'll be informed of approximately how many treatments will be needed to relieve the illness. Each treatment plan is unique because each person is different.

Very fine needles are used to insert into the acupuncture points. These needles are sterile and are disposed of after they are used once. When the needles are in place, you can relax and close your eyes. Some people experience feelings of peace and calm and some even fall asleep! The duration of the treatment is 45 minutes to an hour.
